Health Insurance

A new change in the health insurance verification requirement for students enrolled at UMF took effect on August 1, 2021.

This UMaine System webpage outlines student options for accessing health insurance coverage and information about free wellbeing resources for those students who are not already covered under another plan.

Although health insurance is no longer required to attend UMF, affordable health insurance is available. We strongly encourage students to acquire health insurance coverage that meets their individual needs. There are cost-effective options available for many students, including expanded eligibility for income-based premium subsidies.

Fee Schedule

Most services, vaccinations and lab tests can be billed to your insurance. Charges will apply for students whose insurance does not cover services/supplies at the SHC, students who do not want to bill their insurance, or for students who do not provide their insurance card to us within two weeks from their initial visit.  Please contact us to discuss the cost for specific services.

The SHC is authorized to bill your student account $40 for each Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner or Registered Dietician visit if:
● Your insurance deductible has not been met so no insurance payment was received for your visit; or
● Your insurance company denies a submitted claim; or
● At your request, Insurance was not billed; or
● You are not covered by any health insurance; or
● You have insurance with a plan we cannot bill (i.e. out of state or country)
