Multi-Campus & Study Away
- Multi-Campus – Classes that are taken at other University of Maine System institutions
- Study Away – Classes that are taken outside of the University of Maine System
In order to be eligible for the financial aid you have been awarded, students need to be enrolled for the number of credits their financial aid package is based on. When considering taking classes at another institution, it is important to speak with your academic advisor. You also need to complete a Student Study Away Form (link below). Click here to view UMF’s Study Away Policy.
Note: If you are planning an International Exchange Program, you will need to complete a different Study Away Form with the Global Education Office.
Multi-Campus
- When enrolled in classes at another University of Maine System Campus, you will need to complete a Student Study Away Form which needs to be approved by your Advisor.
- Adding, Dropping or Withdrawing from courses at another campus is your responsibility. The staff at the UMF Merrill Center is not able to do this for you.
- We cannot release any financial aid until the approved Student Study Away Form is received in the Merrill Center.
- A copy of the Study Away Form will be given to the Student Accounts Office, who will then use any credit balance on your account to pay the other campus any outstanding balance due prior to issuing a refund to you.
- NOTE: Completing a Study Away Form does not guarantee you will have enough financial aid to pay the other school, and there could be a remaining balance due at the other institution after all available financial aid is utilized. Any remaining balance due will be your responsibility.
Study Away
- When enrolled in classes at an away institution and a Student Study Away Form has been filed and approved by your Advisor, the Merrill Center will send out a Consortium Agreement, if the school is outside the University of Maine System, to verify your enrollment and bill at the other institution.
- We cannot release any financial aid until the agreement is received back to us completed and signed.
- Once the Consortium Agreement is completed and sent back to us, we will authorize and disburse your financial aid based on the total enrollment and costs you have both here and at the away institution.
- A copy of the Consortium Agreement will be given to the Student Accounts Office, who will then use any credit balance on your account to pay the other institution any outstanding balance due. If no credit balance exists, or there is not enough financial aid to pay the other school, then the remaining balance will be your responsibility.
- If no bill remains, you will be issued a refund of any credit balance on your account.
Study Abroad
- Students will need to meet with the Office of Experiential & Global Education prior to meeting with a Financial Aid Advisor to discuss their aid and study abroad plans. Visit the Study Abroad website for additional information at https://www.umf.maine.edu/global/.
- UMF Financial Aid funds can be used for study abroad programs. Please schedule a meeting with the Financial Aid Office once you have determined what program you are interested in.
- Study Abroad scholarships are available. Please visit https://www.umf.maine.edu/global/home/scholarships-2/ for more information.
