This Graduate Certificate program will assist the teachers in acquiring strategies for creating an inclusive classroom, conducive to proficiency-oriented and communicative language instruction designed to create a learning community.
All courses are offered using a blended format, with a combination of face-to-face class meetings and online study.
Completion of this Certificate requires the following five UMF courses:
- EDU 502 Second Language Acquisition
- EDU 503 Culturally Responsive Pedagogy and Teaching Methodologies for Multilingual Learners
- EDU 504 Multilingual Learners: Equity, Inclusion and Family Engagement
- EDU 505 Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment for Multilingual Learners
- EDU 542 Linguistics
Optional Elective:
- EDU 511 Evidence and Inquiry Based Strategies for Working with Multilingual Learners
Note: This is a graduate certificate that supports the coursework requirement for a Maine’s Endorsement 660: English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Teacher.
