UMF remains the state’s and the region’s premier teacher-preparation university. Approximately 40 percent of students are enrolled in at least one education program, such as Community Health Education, Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Special Education, Elementary Education, and all concentrations of Secondary Education. Students in education majors may also have an Arts & Sciences major.

Our Distinctive Location Provides Distinctive Outdoor Recreational Opportunities
UMF is the ideal University for students looking to integrate outdoor recreational activities with their education.
All full-time enrolled students at UMF receive a free season pass to nearby Titcomb Mountain, featuring alpine and cross-country skiing. Students also receive daily, in-season transportation to and from Sugarloaf, as well as highly discounted season passes.
Located in Western Maine, we’re at the gateway to world-class skiing and snowboarding, and in the heart of the region’s best hiking, mountain biking, camping, rafting, canoeing, fly-fishing and kayaking. Sugarloaf and Maine’s High Peaks Region are only 50 minutes away. The scenic Sandy River, great for paddling and picnics, is just a five-minute walk from campus. The Whistle Stop Trail, a year-round pathway for running, biking, and cross-country skiing, is a five-minute drive away. Titcomb Mountain, featuring alpine and cross-country skiing, and mountain bike trails, is a two-minute drive from campus.
UMF’s Mainely Outdoors Program offers students a broad range of guided outdoor trips — everything from hiking Tumbledown and sections of the AT to stand-up paddling and kayaking — and low-cost rental gear to do it all.
