Students participating in a physical education class

The University of Maine at Farmington School Health Education program understands that wellness and lifelong health habits are established in childhood. Physical activity, nutrition, access to healthcare, and the promotion of healthy behaviors are all key to maximizing the quality of life for children and their families.

Comprehensive health education provides learning experiences that improve children’s wellness, academic success, and an overall better quality of life.

Teaching and learning-by-doing are hallmarks of our School Health Education degree program. You’ll be prepared to confidently and effectively teach health education in Pre-K to grade12 classrooms and settings and you’ll receive Health Educaton certification for those age groups.

The coursework includes content, such as child and adolescent health, stress management, substance use prevention, human sexuality, and disease prevention, as well as professional education courses that culminate with student teaching.
