Students and professor in a GIS Lab

The University of Maine at Farmington Geographic Information Science (GIS) Certificate is ideal if you’re interested in a career that involves global positioning systems (GPS), remote sensing, cartography, and spatial data analysis.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are a critical component of fast-growing career opportunities in areas such as natural resources, planning, environmental regulation, marketing, public safety, public health, environmental analysis, recreation management, national defense, and others.

Not a major, not a minor, this Certificate program is open to students in any UMF major but it coordinates especially well with UMF’s bachelor’s degree programs in Geography & Environmental Planning, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Environmental Science, and Health Promotion & Wellness.

Plus, you’ll take additional classes online, on-site, or hybrid (part online / part on-site) through UMaine Machias, the University of Southern Maine or additional courses at UMF as approved by your Certificate advisor.

Completion of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Certificate is recorded on the official UMF transcript.
