As the incoming first year students of UMF began to filter onto campus this September the University’s staff was preparing to give them a warm welcome, including a day of fun filled outdoor activities. One of the larger activities was an 11 mile kayak or canoeing trip down the Kennebec River. Andrew Willihan, Mainely Outdoors recreation coordinator, spoke to The Morning Sentinel about the first year students and said, “We want them to be successful in the classroom, but also to live a good life with wellness and outdoor recreation. This is an awesome opportunity to show them the things they can do within their means and skills level.”
