FARMINGTON, ME (April 5, 2018) — The University of Maine at Farmington Office of Career Services is hosting the 13th annual UMF College to Career Symposium to help students connect with today’s employers and prepare for the professional world. It is free and open to the public.
The event will bring together a panel of Maine business professionals from around the state to discuss their own post-graduate career paths, inform students of employers’ needs and expectations and advise them on how to best market themselves in a competitive world.
The panel will kick off the two-hour event at 4 p.m., Thursday, April 12, in The Landing in the UMF Olsen Student Center. A professional networking reception will follow the panel discussion, where students and other audience members can speak with the panelists and make connections regarding job and internship opportunities.
According to Forbes.com, the connections a student makes in college can be instrumental in their post-graduate life and they should take every opportunity to build an effective set of relationships that will support them throughout their career.
The professional panel will feature:
- Moderator: Peter Osborne, ‘09 – assistant director for employer relations, Bates College
- Joseph Austin – associate director, UMF Partnership for Civic Advancement
- Sandy Goodwin – chief loan officer, Kennebec Savings Bank
- Patricia Patterson King, ‘00 – senior communications specialist, EMHS
- Annaliese Lafayette – general manager, Holiday Inn by the Bay
- Ryan Lilly, ‘11 – brand manager at Johnson Outdoors
- Gimbala Sankare – global talent acquisition coordinator, WEX Inc.
Attendees are encouraged to wear business casual attire and to bring their resumes.
The event is sponsored by UMF Career Services, the Ferro Alumni Center and the UMF Pre-MBA Program. UMF Career Services offers one-on-one career counseling services to students regarding career and academic issues and continuing workshops and information regarding internships, resume and interviewing skills and graduate school planning.
