University of Maine at Farmington students have the opportunity to study all over the world.

Whether it's through one of our many May Term Travel Courses (where students have gone with UMF faculty to study in Italy, England, Germany, Spain, Costa Rica, St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands, to name a few) one of our formal exchange programs, or through a study abroad provider program, we encourage you to explore the exciting possibilities of international study.


UMF offers the following study abroad opportunities:

Semester in France
    Le Mans
    Hosted by the Université du Maine in LeMans, a 10,000 student campus located an hour by train from Paris, this program provides an intensive immersion in French language and culture for students with at least one year of college-level French language study. LeMans is a beautiful city located on the Sarthe River near the Loire Valley. The region has chateaux, picturesque villages, fine cuisine, theater, films, shopping, and more.

    Angers
    For students with intermediate or advanced French language competency, this program is hosted by the Université d’Angers. Located in the heart of the Loire Valley, about 90 minutes by train from Paris, this university has a student population of 16,000. Students participating in this exchange program may choose courses from a variety academic areas.

Semester in England
This program with the University of Hull, a cosmopolitan university of approximately 22,000 students across two campuses, offers courses in a variety of areas including business, humanities and social sciences, performing arts, sciences, and education.


Semester in Argentina
This group program offers Spanish language study at the Universidad Nacional de Cordoba (National University of Cordoba), the first Argentine university and the third oldest in Latin America. Students spend the first month in intensive Spanish language study, followed by a placement test to determine courses for the rest of the semester. Students with beginning Spanish language proficiency will continue with intensive language study, while students with higher proficiency may take discipline courses taught in Spanish.


Semester in China
For students with at least one year of college-level Chinese language, Farmington offers an intensive program in Mandarin Chinese and Chinese culture at Beijing University of Technology, an 8,000-student university of science, engineering and management. Beijing, the political, economic, and cultural center of China, is home to more than 10 million people.

University of Maine at Farmington students also have the opportunity to study abroad through provider programs in many other countries allowing you to study in places such as Ireland, Australia, Brazil, Germany, Italy, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Japan, Scotland, Ecuador, Poland, Hungary, Spain, Greece, Switzerland, New Zealand and more.
